These lovelies are my hosts here in Maputo.
Tyler and I went to the Embassy library yesterday morning, he to work on his application process, and I to work on the next leg of the trip, since the library has good internet speed/connection.
We took what's would call a tuk-tuk to meet Lilly for lunch. Here these little vehicles are called txopelas (pronounced chapella).
After lunch, we visited the old Portuguese fort. Built for purposes of defending the Portuguese interest in their colony against other European countries, it was then used to overcome resistance from the colonized. It's a symbol of the oppression of the past, but it is part of the story of how they came to where they are today.
Then the market, where I was impressed and entertained watching Lilly as she shopped, asked questions and interacted in a way only possible if you speak the language.
Tyler is learning Portuguese, already able to conduct business with the taxi drivers who take me home after dark.
